What is the history of Kavaklıdere?
The name starts with water. Kavaklıdere means poplar stream in Turkish, a reading of the ground that long predates the apartment blocks and monuments standing on it. The Saraçoğlu Settlement survives as a planned housing scheme inside the quarter, and Kavaklıdere keeps a run of dwellings recorded under personal names: the Sevgi Soysal Mansion, the Cenap And House, the Sait Bektimur House and the Fuat Bulca Evi.
