Sykhiv has hotels of its own, the Sonata, the Ekran, and the Shuvar, plus the Iskra hostel, with the Dovzhenko cinema and the Shuvar market nearby. A tram line, opened in 2016 and 2017, links Santa Barbara with the city network. Trolleybuses 11 and 24 run to Petrushevycha Square in the centre.

What are the main landmarks in Sykhiv?
The Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos, a modern design by the Canadian architect Radoslav Zhuk, went up between 1995 and 2000 where Chervonoi Kalyny Avenue meets Sykhivska Street. Beside it, on 26 June 2001, Pope John Paul II met about half a million young people. A monument and a square in his name followed.
The Zubra shopping centre of 1994 is nicknamed Santa Barbara for arches like those of the television series.
What is the history of Sykhiv?
Lviv's councillors bought the village piece by piece between 1507 and 1509, and in 1525 it received Magdeburg law. The German occupation joined it to Lviv in 1942. Soviet rule did so again on 13 June 1952.
Building began in 1979, once Izoliatorna Street, now Sykhivska Street, had been laid with a bridge over the railway; the first large block was handed over early in 1981, and work went on, microdistrict by microdistrict, until the mid-1990s.
Where is Sykhiv?
Sykhiv lies in the south-east of Lviv and forms the core of the Sykhivskyi administrative district, named after it. Its microdistricts grew around the Y-shaped junction of Chervonoi Kalyny Avenue and Sykhivska Street. The avenue leads on to Novyi Lviv.
