Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.
The Muralhas de Viseu draw the first line. Inside them the streets are close together, and a room in that quarter puts Viseu Cathedral, the Grão Vasco National Museum and the Museu de Arte Sacra within a few minutes of the door. That is the short-walk choice.
Anyone coming for the Cava do Viriato has a different problem, because the earthwork sits outside the walled ground and nothing else on the list stands next to it. Beds there are quieter. Outlying parishes hold the rest of the register.
The Church of São Miguel do Fetal and the Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição da Ribeira each stand away from the centre, and reaching them from a central room is a short drive rather than a walk. Casa do Miradouro and Casa da Calçada belong to the old ground instead. Both are listed houses rather than hotels, but they mark where the old streets are.
