Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.
Zelenograd divides either side of a railway. The older half lies between the Oktyabrskaya Railway and Leningradskoye Shosse, and it carries the civic ground: the Zelenograd prefecture building, the Cultural center Zelenograd, the Vedogon Theatre and the Zelenograd local museum stand within one walk, with the Grand city pond just below them. Kryukovo, west and south of the tracks, is the larger and newer half.
Zelenograd-Kryukovo station sends trains from it into Moscow, so sleep there if you want the shorter commute. Addresses take learning. Most of the district numbers its buildings by microdistrict rather than by street name.

What are the main landmarks in Zelenograd?
The Shtyki Memorial is the best-known structure in Zelenograd. It rises over a mass grave from the fighting of 1941, and in 1966 the ashes of the Unknown Soldier were taken from it to the Kremlin wall. Panfilovsky Prospekt, the old Kryukovo road, follows the line the defenders held.
Science holds the other half. The National Research University of Electronic Technology and the Главный научный центр электроники gave the district its trade, while the Fluite building and the Zelyony Grad building show what the planners did in concrete. The Church of the Holy Mandylion belongs to Andreevka, over the western boundary, not to Zelenograd.
What is the history of Zelenograd?
Zelenograd began with a decree. On 3 March 1958 the Council of Ministers of the USSR ordered the first satellite town of Moscow built near the Kryukovo railway halt, on ground worked by the villages of Matushkino and Savyolki. The name followed in 1963, taken from the forest the builders were ordered to leave standing.
Electronics gave the place its work, and the National Research University of Electronic Technology opened to supply the plants. Growth came in one jump. The settlement of Kryukovo was folded in during 1987, and in 1991 Moscow turned the whole of it into an administrative okrug, the twelfth and smallest by area.
Where is Zelenograd?
Zelenograd is wrapped on every side by Moscow Oblast, with Solnechnogorsk closing its west and north, Khimki its east and south, and Andreevka against the western edge.
