The other consideration is San Salvador. Santa Tecla is a suburb of the capital, close enough that travellers with business in San Salvador sometimes prefer to sleep here and commute in, trading the capital's scale for a quieter street at night.
That works in both directions. Anyone attending a match at the Estadio Las Delicias, or spending time in the La Libertad department's offices, finds Santa Tecla the more convenient of the two. Beds are not scarce.
