Küçükyalı, Maltepe — Area Guide & Where to Stay

Küçükyalı sits on the Asian side of İstanbul, a Maltepe neighbourhood on the Marmara Sea coast holding the Monastery of Satyros.
About Küçükyalı

Where to stay in Küçükyalı
The right area depends on your trip — here's what each neighbourhood is best for.
A square kilometre of Maltepe on the Marmara Sea gives Küçükyalı something the inland neighbourhoods of İstanbul cannot offer, which is a shoreline within walking distance of wherever the room happens to be. The Asian side changes the calculus. Anyone based here reaches the older quarters of İstanbul by crossing from the Asian side, and the Monastery of Satyros is the one sight Küçükyalı keeps for itself.
Maltepe holds the bulk of the beds.
About Küçükyalı
What are the main landmarks in Küçükyalı?
One name dominates. The Monastery of Satyros is the single monument the record fixes to Küçükyalı, and it stands within a square kilometre that also carries the neighbourhood's whole frontage on the Marmara Sea. Maltepe supplies everything else on the list.
Across the water, the older monuments of İstanbul do the sightseeing work that Küçükyalı does not.
What is the history of Küçükyalı?
The monastery carries the oldest thread. No founding year is set down for Küçükyalı itself, and what the record preserves instead is the Monastery of Satyros, a name attached to this ground long before the municipality of Maltepe drew its modern boundaries around it. Küçükyalı Merkez is the fuller form used in the sources, applied to the same square kilometre on the Marmara Sea.
Everything since is municipal.
Where is Küçükyalı?
Küçükyalı takes in one square kilometre of Maltepe on the Asian side of İstanbul, running down to the coast of the Marmara Sea in Turkey.
