Trams stop at Shyroka Balka. That stop lies a couple of kilometres west of Kulbakyne, so most arrivals come by the minibuses numbered 5, 10, 26, 29, and 78, or on the trolleybus line opened from Pivnichnyi in December 2024. Beds are the missing piece: nothing in the microdistrict is set up for guests, and travellers with business at the works or the airfield book in central Mykolayiv and ride out.

What are the main landmarks in Kulbakyne?
The Tu-16 monument marks the centre. A bomber of that type stands on a plinth in the middle of Kulbakyne, put there because the microdistrict grew up around an aircraft works and the runway beside it. The Church of St Seraphim of Sarov occupies part of the works' sports hall, sharing a roof with courts for volleyball, basketball, and football.
Kulbakine Air Base closes the northern side, a working field of the 299th Tactical Aviation Brigade rather than anything a visitor walks into.
What is the history of Kulbakyne?
The first block rose in 1968. Kulbakyne grew out of the Mykolayiv Aircraft Repair Plant, founded in 1939, whose workshops and hangars drew the workers and airmen for whom that tall building went up on Raiduzhna Street. The plant paid for the rest as well: a school, a kindergarten, and a library came out of its budget, along with shops, a club, and the post office.
Fighting reached the airfield on 4 March 2022, and the defence held.
