What is the history of Dapto?
The name comes before the suburb. Wollongong is pronounced Wool-un-gong, a word of Aboriginal origin whose translation is not certain, and the traditional owners of the land it and Dapto stand on are the Dharawal people. Dapto's own entry records no charter.
It reaches the register as a suburb west of Lake Illawarra rather than as a town with a founding year of its own.
