What is the history of Brisbane central business district?
Brisbane City stands on ground the Yuggera people knew as Meanjin, the river peninsula at the centre of Brisbane. The name Meanjin has lasted. From that bend in the Brisbane River the colonial town spread outward and upward, its early stone still marked by the Commissariat Store, until the district became the seat of government for the whole of Queensland.
Meeanjin and Mianjin survive as older spellings of the same place.
