The canals are what people come to see. Halls Head lists no monuments, and its distinguishing built feature is the run of canal estates developed from the 1980s, waterways cut deliberately into what is otherwise a residential suburb. The beach does the rest.

The 1980s made Halls Head what it is. Before the canal estates the ground west of Mandurah's central area was the coastal edge of the city, and the excavation of those waterways from that decade onward reorganised the suburb around water. It stayed residential throughout.
Halls Head has no separate founding record of its own, and its history runs with Mandurah's, the coastal city that spread west to here, south into Dudley Park, and east into Greenfields as it grew. Canals, then, and a shoreline.
