Where to stay in Ladner
Where visitors usually base themselves, and why.
Ladner has expanded into a suburb. Fishing and farming are important industries there, and Ladner suits visitors who want a suburban base in mostly rural Delta. It suits those bound for central Vancouver less: Delta has no rapid transit and lies 27 km south of Vancouver, though the SkyTrain in Surrey comes within 3 km of its borders.
About Ladner
What are the main landmarks in Ladner?
Ladner Trunk Road is the main street of Ladner and links it with North Delta and the communities to the east. Ladner's heritage houses include the John McKee Residence, the Thomas Kerr Residence and the Bishop Residence, the last two listed in a community heritage register. The John McKee Residence has a heritage designation.
What is the history of Ladner?
Thomas and William Ladner began farming the area named after them in 1868. Ladner itself was created as a fishing village. Farming and fishing helped Ladner grow.
In 1879 the area became a municipality, the Corporation of Delta, with the village of Ladner as its administrative centre. The George Massey Tunnel, completed in 1959, linked Ladner to Richmond and Vancouver, one of the links that ended Delta's isolation.
Where is Ladner?
Ladner lies in the north-west of Delta, British Columbia, Canada, on the banks of the Fraser River. Tsawwassen lies in south-west Delta. The two together are known as South Delta, and the city of Richmond borders Delta to the north.
