What is the history of Iselin?
Iselin was formed in 1904 as a new quarter called Hegenheim, after the neighbouring Alsatian village. Protests changed that in 1932. The new name came from the Isaak-Iselin school, named for the Basel philosopher Isaak Iselin, and the quarter lies on the western edge of Grossbasel, bordering Allschwil and the French town of Saint-Louis, with Saint Thomas Church and the Oekolampad church inside it.
