Two lines bring you up. The Mühleggbahn climbs from the old town to a top station at the lower end of the quarter opposite the Mühleggweier, and trolleybus route 6 runs the whole length along the Steinach to St. Georgen-Bach with a direct link to the railway station. The quarter is not on a through route.
It still takes commuter traffic cutting from St. Gallen toward Teufen, which is why people in the quarter want a thirty limit on the Demutstrasse into Riethüsli, and most of the quarter has run at that limit since 2020 after a trial worked. Kammelenberg high above has no bus at all.

About St. Georgen
What are the main landmarks in St. Georgen?
The shooting range was built for a festival. The Schützenhaus Weierweid went up in the Tal der Demut for the federal shooting festival of 16 to 28 July 1904, is still used for shooting events and the obligatory practice, and holds ranges at three hundred, fifty and twenty-five metres plus a ten metre air range. It is on the city's protected list.
So are the terraces of the Gellert- and Hebelstrasse, put up between 1903 and 1911 in the heyday of St. Gallen embroidery, and the whole quarter is in the ISOS inventory as a townscape of national importance. One restaurant is much older. The Falkenburg is said to have been built on the Bernegg slope in 1497 by the burgher Heinrich Hochreutiner, changed hands until the city bought it in 1660 and used it as the mayor's summer residence, was sold again in 1808 after the city republic fell, and opened as an inn under its present name in 1861.
What is the history of St. Georgen?
The Falkenburg carries most of the dates. Heinrich Hochreutiner is said to have raised it on the Bernegg slope in 1497, the city bought it in 1660 and gave it to the sitting mayor as a summer house, it went back into private hands in 1808 once the city republic had ended, and an inn opened in it in 1861 under the name it still uses. Fire took the old building in 2017.
The restaurant next door was spared, and the renovation with the heritage office turned the historic house into a small hotel of four rooms and seven beds with a seminar room, opened in the spring of 2019. Embroidery built the streets. The Gellert- and Hebelstrasse terraces went up between 1903 and 1911 while St. Gallen embroidery was at its height, in the Heimatstil that also shaped the Schützenhaus Weierweid of 1904.
A stream came back out of its pipe. A restoration project began in 2019 in the Tal der Demut at the western end of the quarter, uncovering the culverted Weierweidbach that runs toward Riethüsli and putting a path along it.

St. Georgen runs up the Steinach valley in the south of St. Gallen from the top of the Mülenenschlucht to St. Georgen-Bach, bordering the Riethüsli, Innenstadt, Südost and Notkersegg quarters and the Appenzell Ausserrhoden communes of Teufen and Speicher.
