Two lakes lie at its northwestern end. The Gördensee, named after the settlement, and the Bohnenländer See formed in a glacial channel called the Bohnenland-Görden-Rinne, with the Altstädtische Forst beside them. Water and road close the south.
The Silokanal runs to the Quenzsee and the Bundesstraße 1 forms the other southern limit, with Hohenstücken to the east and Plaue to the southwest. It sits four kilometres from the centre.

What are the main landmarks in Görden?
Stone Age finds came out of the ground here. A tanged point of the Ahrensburg culture was found on the shore of the Gördensee, and building a hospital in the Altstädtische Forst uncovered a grave of the Globular Amphora culture along with further graves assigned to the pre-Roman Iron Age and the Roman imperial period. Grave goods came with them.
Urns, iron spearheads, knives, fibulae, and whetstones were among what was dug up. The lakes are the landscape. Both sit in the glacial Bohnenland-Görden-Rinne, which ends at the Quenzsee to the southwest.
What is the history of Görden?
The name is Slav. Görden goes back to a settlement called Gorne, from gorny for upper or high. Its first record is 1161.
The place appears that year as a holding of the chapter of Brandenburg cathedral, lying southeast of the Bohnenländer See. A second estate followed in 1179. Silow existed in the present Gemarkung northeast of the Quenzsee by then.
The heath was divided in 1307. That year the heath by the curia Gorne was split between the cathedral chapter and the Altstadt Brandenburg, and twenty-nine years later, in 1336, the Altstadt bought the rest of the wood and the estate from the cathedral as well. The Slav village was gone within the century.
It fell deserted in the 14th century, and what carries the name now is the settlement that grew later and became a Stadtteil in the 1920s.
Where is Görden?
Görden lies about four kilometres northwest of the Brandenburg an der Havel centre, bounded south by the Silokanal to the Quenzsee and the Bundesstraße 1, east by Hohenstücken and southwest by Plaue, with the Gördensee and the Bohnenländer See at its northwestern end.
