About Römerstadt
What are the main landmarks in Römerstadt?
The Ernst-May-Haus, one of the estate's houses, has been a museum since 2006, with a model garden and a garden house designed by Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky. Streets such as Am Forum and Mithrasstraße recall the Romans. Im Burgfeld follows the line of the Roman defensive wall.

What is the history of Römerstadt?
The estate stands on the site of Nida, the Roman town that was the chief place of the Civitas Taunensium, and takes its name from it. Ernst May's housing office, in charge since 1925, planned it, and the architect Carl-Hermann Rudloff built it in 1927 and 1928 with 581 houses and 602 flats. Tenants arrived in summer 1928.
Each flat had the new Frankfurter Küche, the fitted kitchen designed by Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky, and Leberecht Migge and Max Bromme laid out the gardens.
Where is Römerstadt?
Römerstadt lies in the south-west of the Heddernheim district, on the right of the Nidda. A wall marks its southern edge. The street In der Römerstadt bounds it to the north, and An der Ringmauer, Hadrianstraße and Im Burgfeld to the south.
Since the 1970s the Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße expressway has crossed it on a bridge, splitting the estate into an eastern and a western part.
