What are the main landmarks in Wiesenau?
The Emmauskirche is Wiesenau's church. The district also has the Adolf-Reichwein-Schule, a local branch of the THW relief agency for Hanover and Langenhagen, and the Quartiertreff Wiesenau, a neighbourhood centre that runs regular events and helps older people and refugees. Its Stadtbahn station, Wiesenau, stands just over the line in Hanover, on Vahrenwalder Straße.
What is the history of Wiesenau?
Until the Nazi era Wiesenau was a rural place of single-family houses. The Reichsautobahn cut it off from Langenhagen, and an industrial area grew to the south. War industry followed, with a war school on the road now called Vahrenwalder Straße, an army weapons workshop south of Heinrich-Heine-Straße, and works such as Max Müller and Wohlenberg.
Allied air raids left few homes undamaged. Rebuilding began in the early 1950s.
