Stepping Hill, Stockport — Area Guide & Where to Stay

Stepping Hill is a district of Stockport, England, and the name of a former electoral ward that took in Great Moor and Little Moor.

About Stepping Hill

Where to stay in Stepping Hill

The right area depends on your trip — here's what each neighbourhood is best for.

Stockport takes the booking. Stepping Hill spreads across ground that boundary changes later divided between Norbury & Woodsmoor, Offerton and Hazel Grove, which leaves it a residential name on the map rather than a lodging quarter. The Church of St Thomas and St Saviour are its two recorded addresses.

Beds sit elsewhere in the borough. Great Moor and Little Moor lie on the same side, and a room taken in Stockport keeps all of them within an ordinary local journey.

About Stepping Hill

What are the main landmarks in Stepping Hill?

Two entries, both parishes. The Church of St Thomas and St Saviour carry what is recorded on Stepping Hill ground, and neither draws the kind of visiting that fills a coach park in Stockport or anywhere else in the borough. Great Moor and Little Moor sit alongside.

Their streets ran into the same ward before the boundary was redrawn, and Offerton and Hazel Grove took shares of it when that happened.

What is the history of Stepping Hill?

Stepping Hill entered the electoral map in 2004, created as a ward of the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport and returning three councillors chosen by first past the post. One seat was filled each year, with the fourth year left clear of any election. Then the boundaries moved.

Ahead of the 2023 council election the ward was abolished and split, its largest part joining the new Norbury & Woodsmoor ward, with sections of Great Moor and Little Moor transferred to Offerton and a smaller area to Hazel Grove.

Where is Stepping Hill?

The district lies inside the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport in England, on ground shared with Great Moor, Little Moor and the Norbury & Woodsmoor ward.
