A canal ran through here before the motorway did. The M8 motorway follows the former route of the Monkland Canal, which means the line that now separates Ruchazie from Cranhill and Riddrie was once a waterway carrying traffic of a very different kind. Hogganfield Park and Lethamhill Golf Course held the northern open ground.
Craigend and Garthamlock closed the eastern side.
