What is the history of Kuningan?
Kuningan takes its name from Kuningan Regency in the east of West Java. Its founders reportedly came from there. When Demak and Cirebon took Sunda Kalapa in 1527, the Kuningan troops fought under their commander Dipati Ewangga, known as Dipati Cangkuang.
He and his men seem to have stayed in the port, which became Jayakarta and then Jakarta, and to have settled to the south of it, a little inland, naming the village after home. A venerated grave near the Telkom Divisi Regional 2 building, known as that of Pangeran Kuningan, may be his.
