Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.
Khomeyn is a county seat, and a room here is chosen against a short list of monuments rather than a spread of quarters. Salar Mohtasham Castle is the fixed point. Beds taken within walking reach of the castle put the mansion عمارت حاج جلال لشکر on the same circuit, and the two together fill a morning without a car being needed at any stage.
That side of town suits a short stop. The mosque marks the other pole. Rooms near مسجد جامع خمین sit in the working centre of the county capital, where the offices that serve Khomeyn County and the Central District keep the streets busy on weekdays and quieter after prayers.
Beyond the built ground the bridge پل حاج مرتضی crosses the water, and the villages of the district open out past it toward the wider farmland of Markazi province. If you want the castle, the mosque, and the mansion inside one afternoon, stay central and walk. Travellers moving through the province on their own wheels may prefer the outer streets, where parking is simpler and the road out is quicker to find.
Either choice keeps Khomeyn's four monuments within a few minutes of the door.

What is the history of Khomeyn?
Khomeyn's name travels with its county. The town gives that name to Khomeyn County and to the Central District wrapped around it, and it holds the administrative capital of both, a double role that has done more than anything else to fix which streets carry the offices and which carry the shops. Older spellings survive.
Khomein appears beside Khomeyn in Latin script, and both forms point at the same county seat inside Markazi province. What remains of the earlier town is carried by four structures. Salar Mohtasham Castle is the castle, مسجد جامع خمین the congregational mosque, عمارت حاج جلال لشکر the mansion, and پل حاج مرتضی the bridge over the water at the town's edge.
Each of them carries a person's name. Salar Mohtasham, Haj Morteza, and Haj Jalal Lashkar were households rather than dynasties, and the naming records who paid for a wall, a span, or a courtyard rather than who ruled the province at the time. That is a common pattern in the county towns of Iran, where the state built the mosque and private money built much of the rest.
The castle keeps the largest footprint of the four. Together they mark the ground the modern county capital grew across.
Where is Khomeyn?
Khomeyn stands at the middle of its own district. The Central District of Khomeyn County spreads its farmland and villages around the town on every side, and the county in turn takes up a share of Markazi province, one of the inland units of Iran. Water runs at the town's edge, spanned by پل حاج مرتضی.
Beyond the bridge the ground opens.
What is the climate of Khomeyn?
The subtropical belt sets the terms. Khomeyn lies north of the equator and well inside that band, so the warm half of the year runs long while the cooler months carry most of whatever rain arrives over Markazi province. Shade matters in high summer.
Anyone crossing the town on foot between Salar Mohtasham Castle and the mosque does it early or late, and leaves the middle of the day to the courtyards and the covered streets.
How do you get to Khomeyn?
Roads do the carrying here. Khomeyn sits at the centre of its own county, so the routes serving the Central District converge on the county capital instead of passing it by, and arrivals from the rest of Markazi province come in by road. Most visitors reach it from elsewhere in the province.
Khomeyn County is the last leg either way.
