Ḩayy al Quwaysimah, Amman — Area Guide & Where to Stay

Ḩayy al Quwaysimah is a large residential district of Amman, one of the busy southern quarters of the Greater Amman Municipality.

About Ḩayy al Quwaysimah

Where to stay in Ḩayy al Quwaysimah

Each area has its own feel; here's who each one suits.

Rooms here suit the district over the sights. Ḩayy al Quwaysimah is a lived-in quarter of Amman rather than a hotel strip, so beds sit among apartment blocks and local markets instead of a tourist core, and most visitors trade central bustle for a cheaper, calmer base within the Greater Amman Municipality. Stay near a main road. Beds along the arteries running toward Abu Alandah keep buses and shared taxis into central Amman within easy reach, while the edge nearer al-Jweideh leans quieter and more suburban.

About Ḩayy al Quwaysimah

What are the main landmarks in Ḩayy al Quwaysimah?

This is a district of streets, not monuments. Ḩayy al Quwaysimah draws its character from the everyday life of southern Amman, where markets, mosques, and apartment blocks fill a quarter that ranks among the largest population centres of Jordan rather than a set of named sights. The grand draw lies outward. Central Amman, a short ride from the district, holds the citadel, the Roman theatre, and the museums that visitors cross the Greater Amman Municipality to reach, while Quwaysimah itself stays a working residential base beside al-Rajib and Abu Alandah.

What is the history of Ḩayy al Quwaysimah?

The place began as a village. The Ottoman census of 1915 recorded Quwaysimah as a tiny Muslim settlement on the land south of Amman, long before the capital's growth swallowed the surrounding hills into its suburbs. Then Amman spread outward.

What had been a hamlet became one of the districts of the Amman Governorate and a quarter of the Greater Amman Municipality, and the census of 2015 grouped Ḩayy al Quwaysimah with al-Jweideh, Abu Alandah, and al-Rajib into a single built-up cluster among the largest in Jordan.

Where is Ḩayy al Quwaysimah?

Ḩayy al Quwaysimah spreads across the hills south of central Amman, a densely built quarter of the Greater Amman Municipality that runs up against the neighbouring localities of al-Jweideh, Abu Alandah, and al-Rajib along the edge of the Amman Governorate.
