What is the history of Pilaitė?
A castle stood here first. Pilaitė takes its name from a medieval stronghold rebuilt in Renaissance style during the 16th century, which guarded the roads running to the capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania from the west. The Battle of Vilnius ended it.
The castle was never rebuilt, but its name stayed with the ground, and the eldership standing over it carries only the windmill and the farm stones as older work.
