What is the history of Lisleby?

Industry made Lisleby. The quarter was a centre of the Fredrikstad trade, and the first electric light used in Norway was lit at Lisleby Bruk in 1877. Before 1963 the district lay within the old Glemmen kommune, only later folded into Fredrikstad kommune as the city absorbed its north-eastern parishes.

The works are long quiet now. That early spark still marks Lisleby as one of the city's defining industrial corners.

Lisleby sits on the north-eastern side of Fredrikstad. It is one of the larger central districts, set among the inland quarters with Glemmen to the south-west and the streets of Cicignon toward the heart of the city. The neighbourhood belongs to Fredrikstad kommune, in south-eastern Norway.
