The open landscape is the draw. Fana spreads across the valleys and fjord shore of south-eastern Bergen, a green counterweight to the dense central quarters. From here the inner districts of Minde, Kronstad and Landås lie back toward the city, while the borough itself runs out toward the water of Vestlandet.

What is the history of Fana?

Fana was rural ground long before the city reached it. It came into Bergen as the municipality expanded south, absorbing the farms and parishes of the valleys beyond the older quarters around Minde and Kronstad. The borough kept its open character.

Over time it became the suburban south of Bergen, a large slice of Bergen kommune that the city spread into across the centuries.

Where is Fana?

It reaches far from the harbour. Fana takes in south-eastern Bergen, a broad borough of valleys and fjord inlets that begins where the inner districts of Minde and Solheim give way to open ground. The wider setting is western Norway, on the fjord coast of Vestlandet within Bergen kommune.
