As Sib Fortress marks the older half of the province. A bed near it puts the walls and the working seafront within the same short walk, and that pairing is the main reason to choose the historic side over anything closer to the capital. Seeb is long.
The province follows the coast instead of gathering into one dense centre, so two rooms in the same wilayah can sit a real drive apart, which makes the exact address matter more here than the name of the town does. Check the position before booking. Muscat pulls the other way.
If you are working in the capital, a room in Seeb can cost less time than one deep inside Muḩāfaz̧at Masqaţ, because the province lies northwest of Muscat on the same coast and the road between them is short. The fishing settlements suit a different trip. They put the morning boats and the plain shore of As Sib at the door, at the cost of distance from the capital.
Nothing here is a resort strip. Seeb is a place people live and work in, so expect ordinary streets, an ordinary seafront and a day planned around the drive rather than around a promenade.

What is the history of Seeb?
As Sib Fortress is the oldest named structure Seeb holds, a walled work of the kind raised along the Omani coast, and it ties the province's early record to defence and to the water rather than to any inland route. Fishing did the rest. Generations of the settlements now gathered under one name took their living from the sea off this part of northeastern Oman, which is why the province is described first as a fishing one and only afterwards as anything else.
Names shift here. The place appears as Al-Seeb, As Seeb, As Sib and Seeb depending on which transliteration is in front of the reader, and all four are renderings of one Arabic name for the same coastal wilayah northwest of Muscat. Administration followed the capital.
As government business concentrated at Muscat, the province was counted into Muḩāfaz̧at Masqaţ, and much of what happens in Seeb became part of what happens in the capital region. The 2020 census recorded it among the provinces of Oman. Muscat's outward spread is the modern part of the story, and it explains why a fishing coast is read partly as an approach to the capital rather than as a town standing on its own.

Muscat is the way in. Seeb lies northwest of the capital on the same coast, so travellers reaching northeastern Oman generally arrive through Muscat and cover the last stretch by road into the province. The drive is short.
