What is the history of Lefortovo?
Lefortovo began as the German Quarter, the settlement of foreign soldiers and craftsmen on the edge of old Moscow. Court builders followed. They raised the Lefortovo Palace and later the Slobodskoy Palace and Catherine Palace, while the Lefortovskie barracks fixed a permanent garrison in the area and the district was for a time known as Kalininsky.
The Anna Mons house survives from those first foreign generations, when the quarter stood apart from the Russian city around it.
