The Chkalov aircraft works dominate the district's identity. Formally the Novosibirsk Aircraft Production Association, this plant assembled Su-34 fighter-bombers and fed the Sukhoi Superjet 100 programme, and its scale set the pattern of workers' housing that fills the streets around Prospekt Dzerzhinskogo. Green relief comes from Beryozovaya Roshcha, a birch grove laid out as a park.

What is the history of Dzerzhinsky City District?
The district was carved out on 1 October 1933 and named for Félix Dzerzhinsky. Its growth followed the aircraft plant. War-era production drew thousands of workers into the grid of avenues around Prospekt Dzerzhinskogo, and by 1980 the built-up area had spread far enough that its northern reaches were split off to form Kalininsky City District.
Beryozovaya Roshcha park was opened in 1963 as the quarter matured.
Where is Dzerzhinsky City District?
One of the ten city districts of Novosibirsk, it fills a swathe of the east bank away from the Ob, drained locally by the small Kamenka River and covering some 37 square kilometres of gridded blocks and birch parkland.
