The name is used more loosely than it should be. Zakamsk is often taken to mean the whole Kirovsky district or the entire right bank of Perm, but officially it is one microdistrict at the centre of that district, bounded by the Sysolskaya, Kirovogradskaya, Galperina and Magistralnaya streets. It has neighbours on two sides.
Oktyabrsky lies north and Novye Vodniki and Starye Vodniki lie east, and the centre of Perm is a long way off across the river. Rooms are in the city centre.

What are the main landmarks in Zakamsk?
The plan itself is the thing worth knowing. Zakamsk was designed as a satellite town of Perm by Hannes Meyer, one of the directors of the Bauhaus, and it was built from 1933 for workers at a chemical combine that is now the Perm powder plant. Its parts have separate names.
The eastern strip from Lipatova to Sysolskaya is the Novy Yanvarsky microdistrict, and the western strip from Galperina to Fedoseeva is Chistopolsky, a name so little used that many living there do not know it exists. One quarter of two-storey houses stands apart. Stroygorodok, on the Shchigrovskaya, Sayanskaya, Roshchinskaya and Yaranskaya streets west of Khimgradskaya station, belongs to Chistopolsky on paper.
What is the history of Zakamsk?
People settled this bank in the 17th century. Oborino, one of the oldest places hereabouts, is first mentioned in 1614, and until the 1930s the ground carried private and state forest estates, among them holdings of the Stroganov and Shuvalov families and the forest estate of the Motovilikha works. A boundary post marked one edge.
A three-sided wooden post stood into the late 1920s at the corner of what are now Sysolskaya and Kirovogradskaya, opposite the descent to the Kama. Two small settlements came first. The first five log huts went up at the village of Sosnovka late in 1917, and by 1952 a settlement of individual houses stood there between the present Magistralnaya, Shishkina, Zakamskaya and Admirala Nakhimova streets, which is the central part of Zakamsk now.
Yanvarsky began as a canteen. It grew from a few private houses and that one building in 1930 and 1931, and the ground it covers between Magistralnaya, Sysolskaya, Marshala Rybalko and Lipatova is part of Zakamsk now. The district came in 1941.
Zakamsk was taken into the new Kirovsky district of Perm that year, and it has been the building and infrastructure core of that district ever since.
Where is Zakamsk?
Zakamsk lies in the western part of Perm on the right bank of the Kama, well away from the centre, bounded by the Sysolskaya, Kirovogradskaya, Galperina and Magistralnaya streets at the middle of the Kirovsky district.
