What is the history of Krasnoye Selo?
Krasnoye Selo grew up as a country retreat south of Saint Petersburg. A Former Swedish redoubt marks the district's oldest defensive layer, from the centuries when these lands changed hands between competing crowns. Later the Summer Palace of Grand Duke Michael Pavlovich and its Palace Park drew the court out from the city, and the settlement spread along the Lenina Prospekt boulevard.
Paper-making followed. The Paper factory buildings and the Trinity church record the working town that filled in around the imperial grounds.
