What are the main landmarks in Migalovo?

A fighter aircraft stands behind the school. The monument is a MiG-23, set in the square there, and it is the most visible thing in the microdistrict. The church of the Nativity is older than any of it.

A wooden church of that dedication stood in the village in 1580, and the present one carries the same name. A war grave lies here. The common grave holds those killed in the Great Patriotic War, and the Tver Suvorov military school of the defence ministry stands nearby, along with the middle school and a kindergarten.

What is the history of Migalovo?

A scribal survey of 1580 names the village. It describes Migaylovo in the Suzemye volost, standing on the bank of the Volga, with a wooden church of the Nativity of Christ. Households were counted in it.

The survey records fifty-one and a half peasant households in the village and its hamlets with sixty-nine people in them, and sixteen and a half empty ones with fifty-one buildings standing on them. That makes it old. A settlement of that size by the end of the sixteenth century must have been founded a good deal earlier.

It was still a private village in 1859. The record for that year gives it twenty-one households, an Orthodox church and a works, and in the later nineteenth century it belonged to a parish of its own in the Nikulinskaya volost. An airfield changed everything in the 1930s.

Drainage works were carried out, much of the forest was cut, the Staritskoye highway was moved aside and the old stretch of roadway was turned into a runway, and the Migalovo airfield was finished in 1934. The field was leased in secret. German pilots were trained here during the years of cooperation, and the rent paid for a bathhouse for the servicemen and several wooden houses in 1936.

Where is Migalovo?

Migalovo lies on the western edge of Tver in the Proletarsky district, between the Volga, the military airfield, the M10 federal road and the Kalinin district of the Tver region.
