Kärleken, Halmstad — Area Guide & Where to Stay

Kärleken is a district on the north-western side of Halmstad, in the Halmstad kommun of south-western Sweden.

About Kärleken

Where to stay in Kärleken

Where you base yourself shapes the visit — here's the character of each area.

Beds are limited in the quarter. Kärleken is a residential and parish district more than a lodging one, so most visitors book in central Halmstad and ride out to the north-west for the church and the museum. If you would rather be near Kärlekens kyrka and the green of Kärret, that quieter base is the choice.

About Kärleken

What are the main landmarks in Kärleken?

Three marks give the district its shape. Kärlekens kyrka rises among the streets, the Garnisons- och luftvärnsmuseet keeps a military collection close by, and the green expanse of Kärret opens within the quarter on the north-western side of Halmstad. Together they fix Kärleken.

For the wider sights, the centre of Halmstad lies a short way off across the kommun.

What is the history of Kärleken?

Kärleken filled in as Halmstad spread north-west. The city carried its streets onto this ground beyond the old core, and over the years housing, a parish church and a local museum gathered here to make a quarter with its own marks. It did not appear overnight.

The north-western edge of Halmstad became Kärleken, a district of the kommun set apart from Furet on the far side of town.

Where is Kärleken?

Kärleken keeps the north-west. It spreads across that side of Halmstad away from the centre, with the district of Furet set over on the south-eastern flank of the same city, and the open ground of Kärret laid out within the quarter. The whole of it lies in Halmstad kommun, part of Halland County in south-western Sweden.
