Phu Kradung decides more beds here than any street in Loei does. The mountain stands well outside the built-up area, and anyone who wants its summit at first light plans backwards from the trailhead rather than forwards from the town, which is the real fork in the choice. Loei itself is small.
The municipality fills one tambon of Mueang Loei district and no more, so a bed anywhere inside it reaches the Museum of Art and Culture of Loei and the provincial offices on foot. Distance frames the second choice. Udon Thani stands 150 km east of Loei and Bangkok 545 km off, which leaves the through road and the coach stands weighing on any room booked for an early departure.
Phu Ruea and Phu Luang lie the other way. A bed out toward either range shortens the morning approach to the summits and puts the Museum of Art and Culture of Loei out of walking reach. A third group comes for the province.
