Mountains & Alpine Scenery

Mountain country asks one question before anything else: are you walking the range, or watching it from the valley? Ranges built for hut-to-hut trails make different bases than ranges best seen from a valley town, and the right bed matches how far you intend to climb.

Ranked by global recognition — how widely each place is read about across Wikipedia's language editions. Never paid placement, prices, or reviews.

Do mountain trips require mountaineering experience?

Mostly no. Marked trail networks, staffed huts, and valley bases put serious country within reach of ordinary walkers; genuine climbing is a choice, not a requirement. The planning work is matching route length and exposure to the least experienced person in the party.
