Phichit gives a visitor one built-up tambon to work with. Nai Mueang is that tambon, and because the town municipality of เทศบาลเมืองพิจิตร covers it entire, any address inside the municipal line sits close to Wat Mahathat and to the provincial administration. Roughly twelve square kilometres, no more.
You are here for provincial business or for a stop on the run north from Bangkok, and the compact tambon suits both without asking for a car. Outside the municipal line the picture changes. Changwat Phichit reaches well past Nai Mueang in every direction, and Mueang Phichit district keeps open country rather than an extension of the town's streets. A car becomes necessary.
Wat Mahathat and the provincial offices both stand inside the municipality, so the outer district works only for a traveller with a vehicle and no errand in town. Bangkok is a long way south, so a stopover here is usually part of a longer run through Lower Northern Thailand.

Three names sit on one town. Thai writing gives พิจิตร, the municipal charter reads เทศบาลเมืองพิจิตร, and English settles on Phichit, each fixed to the same stretch of built ground in Lower Northern Thailand. The spellings differ; the ground does not.
Underneath sits a single tambon. Nai Mueang is that tambon, and the mueang element it shares with Mueang Phichit district marks the inner town of a provincial seat rather than an outlying parish. The nesting runs three deep: tambon inside district, district inside Changwat Phichit, and the province itself inside Thailand.
Town and province carry the same name. Municipal ground covers only about twelve square kilometres, a line drawn tight around the built core of Nai Mueang instead of around the wider Mueang Phichit district that contains it. The district reaches much further.
Wat Mahathat sits within the town. Bangkok lies more than three hundred kilometres to the south, which sets Phichit among the working towns of Lower Northern Thailand rather than inside the capital's daily reach. Phichit Province still keeps its seat here.

Phichit occupies level ground in Lower Northern Thailand. The municipal boundary follows one tambon exactly, and Nai Mueang covers about twelve square kilometres, so the built area stops where Mueang Phichit district takes over. Changwat Phichit spreads wider again.
Bangkok lies far to the south, and the province sits inland, away from any coast of Thailand.
What is the climate of Phichit?
The monsoon runs the year here. Rain arrives with the southwest monsoon and stays over the inland plain of Lower Northern Thailand for months, soaking the flat ground that Mueang Phichit district spreads across. Between those rains the air turns dry and hot.
Being inland, Phichit gets no sea breeze to take the edge off the hottest stretch before the rains break.
How do you get to Phichit?
Most arrivals come up from Bangkok. The road distance runs to a little over three hundred kilometres, several hours north through the central plain before Lower Northern Thailand begins. Distances inside the municipality stay short.
Once inside Nai Mueang, a visitor is within the single tambon that เทศบาลเมืองพิจิตร governs, which puts Wat Mahathat and the provincial offices of Changwat Phichit within the same short compass.
