A bust of Taras Shevchenko stands in the massif. The Prydniprovska power station on Ihren Island is the reason the massif exists at all. The town grew around it.
What is the history of Prydniprovsk?
Building on Ihren Island began in 1951, west of the settlement of Chapli, and the thermal power station took until 1966 to finish. A settlement for its workers went up beside it, inside the Amur-Nyzhnodniprovskyi district of Dnipro, later the Industrialnyi. On 2 December 1956 the executive committee of the Dnipropetrovsk regional council gave the new massif the status of the town of Prydniprovsk.
It grew in hard conditions.
Where is Prydniprovsk?
Prydniprovsk lies on the left bank of the Dnipro, in the southeast of the city, on ground that was open before 1951. Ihren Island carries the power station to its west. Chapli is the older settlement beside it.
