The centre carries the church, the museum and most of the monuments. Слов'янський краєзнавчий музей and the Church of Resurrection of Christ sit close enough to each other that one room serves both, and the Taras Shevchenko monument falls on the same walk. That settles most stays. A traveller with two days here will spend them inside a compact set of streets rather than crossing the city.
The Monument to Anton Chekhov in Sloviansk is on the same circuit. Industry marks the outer districts. The Ceramics Factory, the Insulators and Fittings Plant and the Koksokhimmontazh plant left memorials on that ground, and rooms out there suit drivers more than walkers.
Not every quarter has beds. Distances grow quickly past the centre. Sloviansk covers more ground than its walkable core suggests, so a room chosen without checking the map can add a long trip back at the end of each day.

Tor came first. The city was known by that name until 1784, and its founding is dated to 1645, which makes it older than most of the industrial towns around it in the Donbas. Ceramics and heavy industry followed.

Sloviansk Raion was run from the city although the city lay outside it, and that raion was abolished on 18 July 2020, leaving Sloviansk within Donetsk Oblast.

Most travellers reach Sloviansk by road. Sloviansk sits in the northern part of the Donbas region within Donetsk Oblast, and the routes linking the northern towns of the oblast pass through it. The former raion still shapes the map.
Sloviansk Raion was administered from the city until 2020, so the roads that fed those settlements converge here, and they lead travellers to the streets around Слов'янський краєзнавчий музей.
