What is the history of Sand Lake?
Sand Lake grew late. It began as marshy float-pond country on the western fringe of Anchorage, useful first to pilots who needed water to land on rather than to homesteaders chasing farmland. As the city spread west across the coastal bench through the mid-twentieth century, the lake's edges filled with houses, and the Alaska Aviation Museum later gave that flying past a permanent home.
