What is the history of Ford Island?
The islet has answered to several names. Ford Island was surveyed at 334 acres in 1825 and carried the names Rabbit Island, Marín's Island and Little Goats Island alongside its Hawaiian name, Mokuʻumeʻume. Fill changed the shape.
During the 1930s the United States Navy dredged Pearl Harbor to deepen it and pushed the island out to 441 acres with the spoil.
