Where to stay in North Hills
Where the beds are, and what that means for the visit.
North Hills is one of the few parts of Raleigh where a visitor can leave the car and walk. Shops, restaurants, cinemas, offices, and apartments sit on the same blocks, with hotels among them and a continuing care retirement community as well. An outdoor commons anchors it.
Concerts, festivals, and a farmers' market run there through the year, which gives the district a centre in a city that otherwise spreads.
About North Hills
What are the main landmarks in North Hills?
The office towers are what identify North Hills on the skyline, Captrust Tower, the Advance Auto Parts Tower, and the Bank of America Tower all stand in the Park District. The outdoor commons is the district's public room. Residential towers rise alongside them, the Alexan among the first, and the whole arrangement sits where North Hills Mall once stood.
What is the history of North Hills?
North Hills Mall opened in 1960 and was enclosed in 1967, the first enclosed mall in Raleigh and the first anywhere between Atlanta and Washington. It was a landmark of its kind. The mall was later cleared and the ground redeveloped as the mixed-use district that stands there now, beginning with the Main District on the old mall footprint and extending east across Six Forks Road into the Park District, which opened last and is the largest of the three.
Where is North Hills?
North Hills stands at the crossing of Six Forks Road and Lassiter Mill Road in north Raleigh, just above the Six Forks Road interchange on Interstate 440. Those two roads divide it. The Main District lies south and west of them, the Lassiter District north and west, and the Park District east of Six Forks Road and south of Dartmouth Road.
