About Đông Anh
What are the main landmarks in Đông Anh?
Cổ Loa anchors the district. Its concentric earthen ramparts wind for kilometres across the fields of Đông Anh, tracing a spiral fort that legend ties to King An Dương Vương and the old kingdom of Âu Lạc. A temple to that king still stands within the walls.
The Red River runs along the district's southern edge, and the Thăng Long Bridge carries road and rail across it toward central Hanoi. Quốc lộ 3 leads north.
What is the history of Đông Anh?
Đông Anh carries a very old past. The spiral citadel of Cổ Loa served as the seat of An Dương Vương, whose kingdom of Âu Lạc ruled this bend of the Red River long before the walls of Thăng Long rose downstream. Later the district settled into farmland north of the capital.
The Thăng Long Bridge changed that, stitching the north bank into a growing Hanoi and drawing rail and factories out along Quốc lộ 3. Fields still ring Cổ Loa.
Where is Đông Anh?
Đông Anh lies north of central Hanoi, a flat spread of fields and villages on the far bank of the Red River, ringed by the earthen ramparts of Cổ Loa.
