What is the history of Suva Reka?
People settled around Suva Reka very early. The site at Reshtan is recorded as prehistoric and late antique, Illyrian mounds stand at Leshan and Gjinoc, and a Roman locality is listed at Peçan i Ulët, so this ground was in use long before any town took shape. Churches followed.
The Church of the Virgin Mary Hodegetria in Mušutište and the Church of Saint George in Rečane date from the medieval centuries, and a medieval necropolis is recorded at Bllacë. Kështjella Gjyteti i Grajqevcit is counted among the same early remains. Mušutište alone carries several of the listed sites.
Later centuries left different buildings. Xhamia e Gazi Mehmed Pashës në Leshan, Kulla e Jonuz Hasan Tafollit, the house of Ibrahim Ramë Bllaca, and the old mills of the Buzhala family are all listed as monuments of the municipality. The name has never settled.
Suva Reka, Suharekë, and Therandë all name the same town, and the record carries the three of them together. Administration made it a centre. The town became the seat of a municipality of 43 villages within the Prizren district, and the municipality is recorded as mostly Kosovo Albanian.
