The Crace family held this land from 1877, farming the country around a homestead whose name the suburb would eventually take, and that holding ended when the Commonwealth resumed it for the Federal Capital Territory. Gungahlin the suburb came much later. Formal establishment of the suburb dates to 1998, more than a century after the Crace holding began and long after the Commonwealth had taken the land into public hands.
