About Garneau

What is the history of Garneau?
Garneau began outside Edmonton. Prior to 1912 the neighbourhood belonged to the City of Strathcona, and it counts among the oldest districts anywhere in Edmonton. Laurent Garneau gave it his name.
He had taken part in the Red River Resistance of 1870, and after its military suppression he brought his family from the Red River Valley to work for the Hudson's Bay Company at Fort Edmonton, leaving again around 1901.
