The Glebe grew on church glebe land within Ottawa, in the province of Ontario, a name that still recalls the parish land it was built on. Land came from the church. Houses spread block by block along Bank Street as the district filled with families, churches and shops across this corner of Canada.
The Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church rose among them, and Carleton University later took shape nearby. The parish name stuck.
