What are the main landmarks in Wieblingen?

The Kreuzkirche and the Alte Kapelle are the older churches, with the Pfarrkirche St. Bartholomäus beside them. The Bühlersche Mühle is the industrial survivor: church property for a long time, it passed at the Reformation in 1558 to the Palatine Elector, who granted it out to nobles and officials. Fishing died out with the factories.

What is the history of Wieblingen?

Wieblingen appears in the Lorscher Codex in 767 as Wibilinga, on the occasion of a donation to the monastery of Lorsch, and many further mentions follow in charters made to it. Commercial fishing died out in the industrial revolution and the first factories came, the Bühlersche Mühle among them. The mill was church property until the Reformation carried it to the Palatine Elector in 1558.

The War of the Palatine Succession burnt the whole of Wieblingen down, mill included, and it was not rebuilt until 1728. Sixty years after that the greatest known ice drift and a heavy flood damaged it badly. Heidelberg absorbed Wieblingen in 1920.

Where is Wieblingen?

Wieblingen lies on the left bank of the Neckar, west of the Heidelberg centre and downstream of it. Ochsenkopf and Grenzhof sit out beyond the main built area. The river makes the eastern boundary.
