About Lechhausen
What are the main landmarks in Lechhausen?
St. Pankratius is the parish church, with Unsere Liebe Frau and St. Markus standing alongside it. The Ulrichsstein is the oldest marker in the Stadtteil. A former Mädchenschule also carries protection.
What is the history of Lechhausen?
A bridge was thrown over the Lech near Lechhausen about 800, when the place belonged to Bishop Simpert of Augsburg, so that the grasslands could be grazed, and huts were put up for the shepherds. The first charter mention is 1130, when Amalbertus, a nobilis homo de Lechhusen, handed part of his property to the monastery of Wessobrunn. The village then counted fewer than twenty houses, and plague, hard winters and dry summers kept it poor.
It changed hands often. Lechhausen took town rights on 1 January 1900, founded its own Sparkasse half a year later, and was flooded on 16 June 1910. The damage, and the cost of the waterworks and sewers and a hospital, ripened the idea of joining Augsburg, which happened on 1 January 1913.
British bombers struck on the night of 26 February 1944 and hit Lechhausen hardest of all.
Where is Lechhausen?
Lechhausen lies east of the Lech, across the river from the Augsburg Innenstadt. It is a big Stadtteil. Three Stadtbezirke make it up, numbered twenty-five to twenty-seven, and together they form Planungsraum VI across some ten and a half square kilometres.
