About Drewitz
What are the main landmarks in Drewitz?
The village church, built in 1725 and consecrated in 1732, stands with its cemetery at the old core on Alt Drewitz. The estates came later. From 1988 the new Drewitz rose south of the Stern-Center, in five-storey prefabricated blocks.
Under the 2009 'Gartenstadt Drewitz' plan, paved ground was opened up and a city park laid out, and its socially fair energy renovation won a federal award for municipal climate protection.
What is the history of Drewitz?
Finds show that hunters and fishers lived here in the Mesolithic. The village appears in 1228 as Drewicz, a Slavic name from the word for tree or wood, when Alverich von Darneburg gave it to Lehnin Abbey. A Slavic fortification once stood on the ground of the Burgfischerei.
Drewitz became part of Potsdam on 1 April 1939.

Drewitz lies in the east of Potsdam, between Am Stern to the north-east and Kirchsteigfeld to the south-west, with Babelsberg adjoining to the north-west. The Parforceheide forest and the A 115 form the eastern edge. The old village lies by the Nuthe meadows.
