What are the main landmarks in Boy?
One landmark stands on record. St. Johannes is that entry, the church that gives Boy an address which anyone outside the district would recognise, and the Protestant Paul-Gerhardt-Kirche is the district's second church. The neo-Gothic St. Johannes of 1896-1898 was closed as unsafe in 1969 and replaced by a modern building in 1973.

What is the history of Boy?
Boy's people long had no church. They used the Kommende Welheim's chapel. With industrialisation, Boy built Bottrop's second school, for about 100 pupils, in 1830, and the neo-Gothic church of St. Johannes Baptist followed in 1896-1898, designed by August Rincklake.
In 1936 a hydrogenation plant for synthetic fuel went up between Boy and Welheim, and in the Second World War it was the main target of the bombing of Bottrop; most of the bombs fell on the housing of Boy and Welheim.
