Adelsberg is a quiet district of family-home estates. It stays rural despite the nearby city centre and the new estates of Gablenz. A few lanes are still gravelled.
The Südring expressway and the B 174 link it quickly to the centre and on towards Zschopau and the Czech border, and the Adelsberger Zeile shopping centre with its bowling alley lies near the B 174. Winter visitors bring sledges for the Katzenbuckl.

What are the main landmarks in Adelsberg?
In Kirchwinkel, a side street in the centre, stands the village church, built within the remains of an earlier church almost wholly burnt in 1596. Its cemetery holds the communal grave of the 1945 air raid victims. The redesigned grave was dedicated in 2005.
Houses at Adelsbergstraße 269, Breitenlehn 12 and Kirchwinkel 4 are among Adelsberg's listed monuments.
What is the history of Adelsberg?
Adelsberg was formed on 1 April 1934 by joining Ober- and Niederhermersdorf, Franconian villages of about 1300, first recorded in 1290 and 1331. The hill appears in 1474. That year two miners asked the Elector of Saxony for leave to prospect, and traces of medieval adits remain.
Air raids in February and March 1945 killed 53 people here. Adelsberg joined Chemnitz on 1 July 1950, and its observation tower closed in 1968 because of a planned missile site nearby.
