Tarup, Odense — Area Guide & Where to Stay

Tarup is a residential district in western Odense, a quiet quarter of the Funen city set out beyond the centre near Næsby Kirke.

About Tarup

Where to stay in Tarup

The right area depends on your trip — here's what each neighbourhood is best for.

Tarup is a housing quarter. The quarter spreads across the western edge of Odense as housing rather than hotel ground, so most visitors take a room nearer the centre of the Funen city and ride out to this reach by bus. You get suburban quiet.

Næsby Kirke stands close at hand, the stands of Odense Idrætspark fill on match days a short way toward the centre, and the quarter of Bolbro carries the streets back into Odense Kommune.

About Tarup

What are the main landmarks in Tarup?

Two fixed points mark the western reach. Næsby Kirke stands as the nearest church to Tarup, anchoring the quarter among its streets, while the stands and pitches of Odense Idrætspark gather the city's football crowds a short way toward the centre of Odense. Both lie within easy reach.

They give this outer quarter of Funen its bearings against the wider spread of Odense Kommune that runs out around it.

What is the history of Tarup?

The quarter began as a village. Tarup stood as a settlement west of Odense before the city reached it, and as Odense grew outward across Funen through the twentieth century its fields filled with housing and the old village was drawn into the spreading town. The parish kept its church.

Næsby Kirke served the western ground as the streets closed in, the sports grounds of Odense Idrætspark rose toward the centre, and the whole reach settled within Odense Kommune.

Where is Tarup?

Tarup lies on the western side of Odense, in central Denmark, on the island of Funen, an outer residential quarter of streets and gardens that sits beyond the city centre toward the edge of Odense Kommune, with Næsby Kirke close at hand and the quarter of Bolbro between it and the core.
